Mentorship vs. Sponsorship in the Legal Profession

It is traditionally recommended that new legal professionals be assigned to a mentor when starting a new position, not only to show them the ropes but to help them network within the firm.   Lately however, we hear more and more about “sponsors” as a key factor in the success of attorneys and staff alike, especially in the DEI&A arena.   What is the difference between a mentor and a sponsor?  In this roundtable, we will explore the two concepts and some of the latest statistics and observations in the business world at large and within law firms in particular.  We invite attendees to share their experience with mentorships and sponsorships, and we will provide practical tips for establishing a sponsorship program in your firm.
