Series 1 of 3: Systemic Racism in America & How to Close the Knowledge Gap

Building on the recent ALA national roundtable on “Social Unrest in America” the Houston Chapter would like to facilitate further discussion about systemic racism. Progress is made through understanding. White people are not subjected to systemic racism and thus often either have a distorted view or no concept at all of how deep-rooted systemic racism can be.

As a community we need our Black brothers and sisters to be willing and comfortable to have candid conversations, share experiences and help us see the way systemic racism affects all people of color, the poor as much as the successful businessman and woman. Systemic racism does not see class or background; it only sees the color of your skin.

Join us for our first D&I roundtable of this year, help us build a bridge and close that knowledge gap.

This roundtable will be facilitated by HALA Chapter member, HALA D&I Committee member, and ALA Committee of Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) member, Chassidy Deckard.
