Cobb Value Curve and the Implications of Setting Pricing based on Client Perceptions
presented by Bill Cobb
Learning objectives and short description of the program:
During the creation of the first books on atlernative fee arrangement, I wrote two chapters discussing (1) the Cobb Value Curve and (2) the importance of calculating the realization on fees. The Cobb Value Curve has been used in five books addressing the professional services industry in classifying what clients perceive as value added as opposed to lawyers believe adds value. Using the Curve, a law firm can determine:
- What structure and talent needs to be put on a matter.
- What the client’s perception of value is based upon who referred the matter.
- What tasks can be fixed fee, contingent fee, or based upon an hourly fee.
- How each practice area should be staffed depending on the type of work they do or the matter mix in the area.
